Feast Señor! The Sinulog 2019 Experience | Hukad

The best thing about Cebu is how they are widely known for culture and food. This month, Cebu’s grandest and popular celebration, the Sinulog Festival, showcases the festivity of their culture and religion. In line with this, Hukad, a homegrown Cebuano brand, showcases the popularity of the festival by bringing in Sinulog all the way to their restaurants. No need to fly to Cebu yet just to witness this because, in Hukad, it’s Feast Señor!

On the first part of the event, we were entertained as we watched the Sinulog Dancers dancing on the beat of the traditional music. This one is basically the ritual to honor Sto. Niño and their acceptance of Christianity. 

Did you know that Sinulog festival started in 1980? The word “Sinulog” is derived from a Cebuano word “sulog” which means “like a water current movement”.

We had so much fun as we tried to wear Sinulog headdresses! Look how happy everyone was. 

The Sinulog experience in Hukad wouldn’t be complete without having the authentic Cebuano dishes. It’s a known fact that Cebu is one of the best provinces to experience food trip as they have a wide history of culinary dishes.

BABY PRAWN SINIGANG

Filipinos love sinigang any time of the day. Same with adobo, this one becomes our national dish because of the warm and comforting taste it brings to our appetite. Hukad's seafood version is very simple yet satisfying. 

NGOHIONG

Ngohiong is Cebu's street food. This is a local version of spring roll, deep-fried with singkamas and ubod ng niyog. This was actually my first time to try this and it's best paired with Hukad's special sauce and vinegar. 

BAKED BANTAYAN SCALLOPS

Everyone loved the freshness of this! The special cheese was too savory though a little bit salty. Scallops have been one of my faves since I tasted this in Iloilo and Dumaguete.

LECHON BELLY

Who wouldn't love lechon Cebu? The crispy thick irresistible skin and the tasty meat, yummmm! Hukad's lechon comes all the way from Cebu to ensure authentic taste and quality. Then, they roast it for 4 hours to get the maximum perfect taste. 

If you are also interested, you can also take home their Lechon Belly for P979/kg. Just make sure to order 4 hours in advance so they can prepare it for you.


BUDBUD TURON

For dessert, we were served by this! I liked the warm taste of the turon with suman inside and best matched with the chocolate sauce.

PINEAPPLE CUCUMBER AGUA FRESCA & WATERMELON JUICE

The drinks that they offered were indeed refreshingly good! Both of these are their best sellers.

Though I didn't get the chance to witness Sinulog in Cebu, I still got the vibe here in Hukad! Apparently, my experience here made me realized that I shouldn't miss the festival in the coming year/s. Hopefully, I could see Sinulog on its 40th celebration! Thank you What To Eat PH and Hukad for the invite!
