An Okonomiyaki Experience + New Exciting Dishes | Dohtonbori

Japanese restos in the Philippines have their own specialties like ramen, tempura, or sushi. Dohtonbori, on the other hand, is well-known for their flavors of Okinomiyaki. Basically, this dish is mixed of meat, egg, and veggies - cook in a teppan like a pancake for about 15 minutes.

Alongside with other looloo reviewers, we had the chance to try Dohtonbori's Butatama Okinomiyaki. It's the simplest of all the okonomiyakis and pork being the main ingredient. The serving is good for one but you can actually share it since it will make you really full.

To make this dish tastier, they added Okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. The purpose of the mayo is not just to enhance the flavor but also to make it look more appealing (like a latte art).

Aside from this, we also got the chance to be served some of the newest food in the menu of Dohtonbori. First, we tried their Ebi Tempura and Ultimate Cheese Tempura.

These two flavored tempura have the same batter as coating. The shrimps that I had were big and crunchy while the cheese one was so good. Just don't forget to dip the Cheese Tempura with its sesame cream to make it more flavorful.

Those were just for starters, we also tried the Love at First Spice which includes Spicy Kalbi Yakiniku, Kimchi Pork Fried Rice, Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. If you love spicy food, you should try one of these three.

Personally, I liked the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen because of the rich taste of the broth. Don't be deceived with the appeal of shredded red like saffron on top because it's actually chili which makes the ramen super spice. For the Kimchi Pork Fried Rice, the taste was a little bit sweet with the kicked of spice. They said that Japanese version of kimchi is different from the Koreans. We found this best paired with the Spicy Kalbi Yakiniku.

For the sets, we also had their Party Yakiniku sets: 3 Meat Yakiniku, Deluxe Seafood Yaki, Premium Yakiniku Mix. I must say that we really enjoyed almost all of them.

3 Meat Yakiniku

Deluxe Seafood Yaki

Premium Yakiniku Mix

If you are into meat and seafood sharing, then you should try their Party Yakiniku sets. The Deluxe Seafood Yaki was my favorite among the three as their seafood was freshly prepared. For the meats, almost all of them were tender and the taste was enhanced with different flavorings. You can always ask them to cook everything for you as they know how to cook it right.

For the drinks, I would like to recommend their fruit juices! Super sarap and refreshing!

The ambiance of Dohtonbori has a resemblance to a typical izakaya place of Japan. We were seated in a separate area without our shoes on. I found that really cool as I felt that we were really like in Japan. Small details like the masks displayed on the wall are so Western, as well as the some of the writings, Japanese bike, and lanterns are all over the place.
